EDUCATION
Sandra Annunziata has a PhD in Politiche territoriali e Progectto Locale, Department of Urban Studies at the Faculty of Architecture, Roma Tre University. The dissertation dealt with processes of neighbourhood change and gentrification in the new economy through a case study comparison between Brooklyn and Rome. The dissertation received the National Award for Italian Dissertations in 2010. In Summer 2008, she was a EU-Fellow at the Future Urban Research in Europe Training Program 2008 “The Ethnically Diverse City” at the Bauhaus Universität of Weimar. From Dec 2006 to July 2007, Visiting PhD student, Columbia University, Department of Urban Planning. Developed a portion of PhD dissertation, studying gentrification, the rebirth of an African-American neighborhood in Brooklyn, anti-gentrification movements and community organizing.
EMPLOYMENT
Jan 2011 - September 2011, Visiting Scholar, Cornell University, Department of City and Regional Planning. Clarence Stein Grant recipient. Researching and comparing the trajectories of change of two historical garden cities (Garbatella in Roma and Sunnyside in New York), both of them now dealing with the needs of a pluralistic society. Presented research results in a seminar at Cornell University and as a lecture at the Annual Clarence Stein Conference, 2011.

Leding a research project (still in progress) called Urbanity and Conflict in the Neo-liberal City: Neighbourhood transitions in Rome between social practices and cultural processes. Taught research project design activities.
Achievements: Related publications (see list of publication). Publication of “Urbanity and Desire” received the Best Award Paper at the IFOU International Forum of Urbanism, Delft (November 2009).
From 2004 to present, Teaching Assistant, Roma Tre University. Organized and Taught: Urban theory, (MA level); Laboratory of Urban Project (MA level); Laboratory of Urbanism (Bachelor level).
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND PROJECT
March 2008-March 2009, Project Manager for the design and implementation of the Integrated Urban Plan for Sustainable Development for the City of Arezzo, Tuscany Region. Directed the team in charge of preliminary research (territorial and socio-economic analysis, survey of areas and buildings that could be potentially transformed, recognition of local stakeholders that could act as supporters); ii) Designed strategy, promotion plan and began collective bargaining (involvement of stakeholders through workshops and thematic tables focused on the key issues of the Plan as outlined by a preliminary strategic document); iii) Managed the development of the master plan, including physical design. The plan was designated for the award of EU Structural Funds and has been funded 16 Million Euros by the EU. The plan was evaluated by the regional government committee as the Best Urban Integrated Development Plan for the region.
From 2005 to 2007, Research Team Member, Roma Tre University, National Research PRIN Territories of the Changing City: Innovations of descriptions and policies, coordinated by Alessandro Balducci.
